County Kildare is part of the Irish midlands, situated towards the east of Ireland within the province of Leinster. The county takes its name from the town of Kildare. Although generally flatter than some other counties, as with most parts of Ireland Kildare has much to interest the visitor, with the foothills of the Wicklow mountains towards and County Dublin to the east and a number of places to visit within its midst.
Kildare is one of the richest counties in the country, with a number of large companies having their European bases here, including Hewlett Packard and Intel. It is also the heart of the Irish horse industry with many stud farms (more than any other Irish county) including a number owned by leading international breeders, and is, of course, famous for its horse racing, with the five Irish Classic Flat races being held here (at the Curragh horse racing course).

Travelling to or from Ireland? Don't forget the ferry! Not only does a ferry ride give you
the freedom of taking your own car but it provides a superb experience of travelling
by sea and exploring the coastline. With convenient routes between Holyhead and Dublin, or Pembroke and Rosslare, we recommend
Irish Ferries for great, low-cost, transport. They are the leading Irish ferry company and provide both an excellent service, and excellent prices.
